Cabaye hails style that “suits”

Ooh suits you sir

Ooh suits you sir

Following Newcastle’s excellent 2-1 victory away to Aston Villa today, there has been some discussion about the formation and the style that the team played with today – firstly from the manager, and now from French International (or is that former international) Yohan Cabaye.

Speaking to nufc.co.uk, this is what Cabaye had to say,

“We were playing with same shape that we had in the team two seasons ago and that suits us well,”

“They found it hard to play against us. We knew with Hatem on the right, Loic on the left and Papiss as well, we have good energy and dangerous players up front.”

It is interesting that Cabaye alludes to the style of play that the team was playing with at the tail end of the 2011/12 season when we finished 5th in the league. The 4-3-3 style that Pardew adopted at the time brought out what was arguably the best football Newcastle United fans have seen from Alan Pardew in his time as Newcastle United manager. Given how we, arguably, have more versatile forward players following the signings of both Remy and Gouffran, perhaps we will see a return to this style of play on a regular basis.

What we here at the NUFC Daily think is that either home or away to mid-table opposition, we should be rolling out this formation in a positive fashion in an attempt to get the win – just like we did today!

So, once more, we will commend Pardew for choosing both the right formation and the right players, and hope that he continues to do so in the future.

  1. Fantastic Ruddy/Ciaran/ or would you like me to call you right said Fred ?

I think I prefer right said Fred.

My smiley faces still won’t work over here by the way. I’m still annoyed about that.

  3. Was just gutted I didn’t watch it, will watch highlights on Match of The Day at some point. Was working at pasta party for the GNR.
I have heard we played the best football we have in months. Hope thats true so we stick with this team and formation. Cisse seems to be running out of time before Gouf replaces him, how did Cisse do yesterday?

    1. Cisse was terrible, The lad should just build a house in an offside position, retire there and live the rest of his days offside. It is only a matter of time before I think Remy will be used down the middle with Gouff down the left, in my opinion

For the first 45mins our football was superb. It was fluid, it was intense, it got the fans off their seats. Remy, Debuchy and Anita in particular were highlights of our 1st half.

In the 2nd half we retreated back into ourselves a bit as Villa came at us and put us under immense pressure. What became apparent is that we needed someone to step up and relieve that pressure – arise Sir Hatem! He became the bright spark that everything went through in our 2nd half display.

He was high up the pitch, running the channels, keeping the ball, going outside, turning inside before firing wicked left footed shots at the keeper – which is how we scored our 2nd goal, he fired a shot at the keeper, it came back out to Gouff who tucked away nicely.

MOTD’s highlights are terrible though, they show an even game, whereas we were the better team.

      1. Cheers for the analysis mate! Sounds very positive, think Villa are a decent side this year.
Glad to hear Anita had another good game, hopefully Pardew won’t ram Tiote in there any time soon.
That’s a shame, MOTD always seem to screw us over, oh well at least we are used to it by now hah!

  4. agree cisse is very poor for us atm but without him last season we would prob have been relegated so its gone from he’s our only striker to him being almost surplus to requirements !

i hope he finds form as i’m sure he must with the amount of creative players we have now but i personaly would look for a replacement in jan and def try sign remy permanently.
