Following Newcastle’s excellent 2-1 victory away to Aston Villa today, there has been some discussion about the formation and the style that the team played with today – firstly from the manager, and now from French International (or is that former international) Yohan Cabaye.
Speaking to nufc.co.uk, this is what Cabaye had to say,
“We were playing with same shape that we had in the team two seasons ago and that suits us well,”
“They found it hard to play against us. We knew with Hatem on the right, Loic on the left and Papiss as well, we have good energy and dangerous players up front.”
It is interesting that Cabaye alludes to the style of play that the team was playing with at the tail end of the 2011/12 season when we finished 5th in the league. The 4-3-3 style that Pardew adopted at the time brought out what was arguably the best football Newcastle United fans have seen from Alan Pardew in his time as Newcastle United manager. Given how we, arguably, have more versatile forward players following the signings of both Remy and Gouffran, perhaps we will see a return to this style of play on a regular basis.
What we here at the NUFC Daily think is that either home or away to mid-table opposition, we should be rolling out this formation in a positive fashion in an attempt to get the win – just like we did today!
So, once more, we will commend Pardew for choosing both the right formation and the right players, and hope that he continues to do so in the future.
