Cash for Questions. Ashley stoops to new low!

New low...

New low…

Mike Ashley hates the free press. Why? Because it is free. Ashley has demonstrated his ire with the media in recent past, with his banning of NCJ media and has taken that a step further by charging national newspapers for the mundane chip shop wrapper interviews that come out of the club every now and then.

Why Ashley has chosen to present his ‘bronze, silver and gold’ packages just days after Newcastle United’s 1-0 win over Manchester United – one of the most famous victories in our club’s history – is beyond me. Why is this man so intent in sullying anything that is good about Newcastle United?

Personally, I think that if the media has any cojones, they will give Mr. Ashley an unequivocal NO, which should force him to rethink his position. I mean, what newspaper in the right mind wants to pay for the privilege of hearing Steven Taylor witter on about how “up for it” the team is going into a Tyne-Wear derby, or how much Hatem Ben Arfa “loves the Newcastle United fans” despite not taking his finger out of his arse to give us 3 decent performances in a row. It is ridiculous.

I don’t want to seem negative about Newcastle United, after all, it is the club that I love. However, Mike Ashley is fast making us a laughing-stock among Premier League clubs. Yes we may have won 5 in our last 6. Yes we may have just turned over the reigning champions in their own back yard and yes we may be seemingly on the up, but it is at times like these that NUFC fans need to be at their most vigilant. Ashley does not care about you or I, nor does he give 2 hoots about progress in the way that we would see it. He does things his way. If you do not like it, tough. Needless to say, even if the national newspapers do not pay for interviews from our intellectually challenged first team players, their thoughts and views will be amply expressed in the growing online phenomenon that is sportsdirectnews.com. Don’t be so naive to think otherwise.

So you think that Ashley is turning a corner? Going on a decent run playing decent football will result in a few January signings and a push for top 6, while all the while Mike Ashley mulls over all his previous mistakes and suddenly changes his method of management? If you believe that, then you are Mike Ashley’s kind of supporter – an idiot.

    1. The media wouldn’t be against him if he ran the club in the right way…

That is probably a concept that is too difficult for you to understand so I will put it in simple language.

      Free Press – Good
      Mike Ashley – Bad

    1. The fuss is that no other PL club has EVER charged for player interviews. It is Ashley once more demonstrating how much contempt he has for journalists simply because he cannot charge them. By making them pay, you also run the risk of bias in reporting.

If you do not understand the issue at hand, step out of the debate.

  2. My father told me of a report which he read over the weekend which claimed that Cabaye scored with a fortunate deflected shot to give us a very fortunate and undeserved win over Man U, how many times do we batter teams for MOTD to then show highlights which suggest that we were second best, so why should we as fans or the club show respect and decency when for an age the press have taken every opportunity possible to blacken our name, the club were wrong with the local papers, but not this time, as for the national press they don’t give us the time of day, so why should we with them.

    1. How much are we going to make? What price can you put on the free press? Will it buy us a new player? Surely if Ashley is worried about bringing more money into the club, he would pay for the huge amounts of advertising that SD currently get for nothing?

    1. Yes I would still be outraged, because even if the club made an outlandish figure of 20 million quid out of it (which they won’t, it will be a nominal sum in comparison to the football economy) Ashley has proven that none of it will be spent on signings, or improving the first team.

As for ‘over there’, where exactly is that?

    1. I’ve spoken to many who are seriously annoyed at this ridiculous decision to drag NUFC’s name in the mud once more. If we want NUFC to be better reported by the media, is paying for the privilege really the right way to go about it?

Even if it led to better news stories, none of it will be believed anyway. If a paper has paid NUFC for access, they have lost what little integrity they had in the first place.

Also, find it funny how you think you speak for most of the toon army…

    1. Does ‘plenty of peeps’ account for the entire fan base of Newcastle United?

How about you talk to your ‘peeps’ I talk to my ‘peeps’ and we see how many ‘peeps’ agree with me, and how many ‘peeps’ agree with you.

This conversation is starting to melt my brain…

  10. say france won the world cup you would have national press lineing up round the block for an interview that would really whack the thing up

    1. Absolute nonsense. You are making sweeping statements that have no foundation in fact or evidence. Provide me with actual evidence that we would make that much money from charging the press and then we will debate that issue, until then, this conversation is over.

    1. You are guessing regarding the newspapers, so until you have proof in relation to how much they will pay (or if indeed they will pay at all given how 2 national newspapers have told NUFC to eff off apparently) this conversation is moot.
